There are a variety of teaching methods an instructor may utilize in order to increase skill development and foster independence in individuals with autism. Instructors must be able to take advantage of every teaching opportunity and must have the skills necessary in order to do this. Taking advantage of every teachable moment assists in the development of skills and provides high repetition that is required for skill acquisition. Also, an individual may be more successful and may acquire more skills within a particular teaching method, whereby requiring an instructor to potentially alter their teaching approach.
This training will discuss how to make the most of every opportunity in order to teach the necessary skills to individuals with autism. A variety of teaching methods are discussed and the skills needed to implement each teaching strategy are presented. Examples and activities are included within each method.
